Two charming toy dog knitting patterns are available for free download from Amanda Berry (fluffandfuzz). These patterns are sure to attract the attention of dog enthusiasts.

First, meet Buster the Jack Russell, who is part of the Dera-Dogs collection from Deramores. This collection also includes a free knitting pattern for Flash the greyhound, as well as designs for a Border Collie and Schnauzer.

For those who can't get enough of toy dog knitting patterns, additional patterns can be found among our favorite kits and patterns.

Buster the Jack Russell can be made using Paintbox Simply DK, an anti-pilling yarn suitable for toys. This free pattern incorporates techniques such as stranded colorwork, increases, decreases, and seaming, making it suitable for intermediate knitters, as well as confident beginners who welcome a challenge. Buster measures 21 cm tall when completed.

Following the completion of Buster, knitters may consider casting on one of our many other animal patterns, such as a panda, giraffe, elephant, or adorable animal baby hats. To stay updated on new knitting projects and inspiration, be sure to sign up for our newsletter.

To cast on this Jack Russell pattern, the following materials are required:

  • *Paintbox Simply DK* (100% acrylic, 100g/270m), 1 ball each of Champagne White (102), Pure Black (101) and Soft Fudge (109), plus less than 1g of Pillar Red (114) for the collar
  • *A pair of 33⁄4mm knitting needles*
  • *Toy filling*
  • *A tapestry needle*
  • *Two 12mm safety eyes*
  • *A 10mm red button*

The knitting pattern uses standard abbreviations and is written in UK metrics. Conversion to other metrics is straightforward, as our yarn weight conversion chart and beginner's guide demonstrate.

The tension for this pattern is approximately 22 sts x 28 rows for a 10 cm x 10 cm square in stocking stitch on 33⁄4mm needles. Tension is not critical for this pattern.

Buster's head, snout, nose, ears, body, front legs, hind legs, tail, and collar are all instructions for knitting and assembling these components are provided in detail.
