Discussion with Artist Lars Breuer at Memorial Day in Resurrection Church
In the heart of Germany's Hochsauerlandkreis, the city of Arnsberg is about to embark on an intriguing journey. The city, known for its diverse neighbourhoods and functions, is requiring increased cooperation and compromises - a consensus - more than ever. To explore this theme, the intermunicipal art project titled "Kombination" by Lars Breuer is taking place simultaneously in Arnsberg, Bestwig, Brilon, Meschede, Schmallenberg, and Sundern.
The "Kombination" project consists of word pairs such as "Consensus - Contrast", "Communication - Controversy", "Coalition - Conflict", and others. These word pairs are derived from communication and can only be mastered through communication to achieve a democratic consensus.
The urban landscape of Arnsberg exhibits a stark contrast: civil servant city and industrial areas, half-timbered houses and classical facades, winding medieval alleys and wide, modern recreation and leisure areas, modern houses and winding old town, new settlements and vast natural landscapes. This contrast is beautifully represented in the "Kombination" project, with a banner displaying the word pair "CONSENSUS - CONTRAST" at the Auferstehungskirche, the first Protestant church in Arnsberg, a predominantly Catholic town.
The recent municipal reorganization has also created elements of a new circle. The six municipalities where the works will be displayed have been newly combined recently, 50 years ago, and thus also created elements of a new circle. The joint kick-off event of the project is a discussion round with Lars Breuer on September 21st at 6 pm in Meschede.
The "Kombination" project is funded by the Hochsauerlandkreis and the Sparkasse Mitten im Sauerland. The joint closing event of the project will take place on January 18th, 2026, at 11 am in the "Lenneatelier" in Schmallenberg. The search results do not provide information about the moderator of the discussion round on September 21 at 6 p.m. on Kaiser-Otto-Platz in Meschede.
Connections between word pairs and their locations are significant in Breuer's works. The theme of the project is "uproar". For a deeper understanding of the project, we invite you to join the discussion round and witness the transformation of Arnsberg through art and communication.
