Designer establishes luxury accommodation at Mount Nelson hotel in Cape Town
In a exciting collaboration, South African fashion designer Thebe Magugu is set to unveil his latest project, Magugu House Cape Town, at Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa. The launch is scheduled for December 2025.
Magugu House Cape Town will mark the transformation of an entire historic wing of the iconic hotel into a curated retail and cultural space. The space will host a variety of events, including salon-style events, screenings, and exhibitions, all showcasing Magugu's distinctive Afro-modernist vision.
The collaboration will bring Magugu's fashion design to a hotel retail space for the first time. The launch will also introduce a new suite, Thebe Magugu Suite, at Mount Nelson Hotel. The suite, which occupies two floors, will feature a striking lobby, lounge, dining area, and cocktail cabinet. The king-size bedroom opens onto a balcony overlooking the Mount Nelson's grounds, offering views of Table Mountain, Lion's Head, and the hotel's palm-lined entrance.
The upper terrace of Thebe Magugu Suite will offer even more breathtaking views, making it an ideal spot for guests to relax and enjoy the city's beauty.
StudioLandt, a creative studio, has collaborated with Thebe Magugu on the concept of Magugu House Cape Town. The space will feature books and objects celebrating African design, literature, and craft, providing a unique and immersive experience for visitors.
Magugu House Cape Town will also showcase limited-edition pieces, archival garments, and accessories from Thebe Magugu's collections. The public will have the opportunity to explore the space from 10 November 2025, when it opens its doors.
Thebe Magugu, a LVMH Prize winner, is known for his innovative designs that blend African traditions with modern aesthetics. This collaboration with Mount Nelson Hotel is a testament to his continued commitment to promoting African culture and design on a global stage.
The Thebe Magugu Suite will join Belmond's Signature Suites and Villas collection and will be available for booking from December 2025. This launch event at one of Cape Town's most iconic hotels promises to be a significant moment in the city's cultural calendar.
