Design Week in Milan: Porcelain Lights That Imitate Traditional Paper Lanterns
British designer Lee Broom has collaborated with Lladró porcelain artisans to create a lighting range inspired by paper lanterns. The collection, named 'Cascade', is set to be unveiled at Euroluce during Salone del Mobile 2025.
The 'Cascade' lighting range takes its cues from the glowing translucency of paper lanterns, the most ancient of human-made light sources. Broom designed the collection to evoke an emotional response and bring joy, similar to lanterns at commemorative events, especially when hung in clusters. The textured porcelain assemblages serve as a quiet, sculptural presence when unlit and take on an almost celestial quality when lit.
The design features graphic, ribbed cylinders and demi-spheres suspended vertically, which can be combined in various configurations. A table lamp completes the collection.
Salone del Mobile 2025 takes place from 8-13 April at the Milan International Exhibition Center located in Rho, Milan, Italy.
