Flower Embroidery Pattern and Instructions
- Trace the design from the template onto water-soluble stabilizer, then place it on your jacket (the design consists of three sections: one for the front, one for the top of the sleeve, and a small one for the back). All sections should be stitched on the left side of your jacket. To mirror the design, flip the design and place it on the right side.
- Create the white embroidery flowers by working the petals in straight stitch using six strands of white. Work the individual leaves around the flowers in fishbone stitch using six strands of light green.
- To add red and peach embroidery flowers, work a French knot in the center of each flower using six strands of yellow. Outline the inner petal lines with couching stitches using three strands of the same color. Use dark red for the red embroidery flowers and dark orange for the peach embroidery flowers.
- To fill the red embroidery flowers, use satin stitch with three strands of red on the inside and raspberry on the outer edges. For the two-tone peach embroidery flowers, satin stitch with three strands of light peach on the inside and dark peach on the outer edges. For solid peach embroidery flower petals, use satin stitch with three strands of dark peach.
- Create a branch of embroidery flowers, working the individual petals and star flowers on the branch in straight stitch using six strands of variegated orange. Stitch the star flowers in the same way as the white embroidery flowers.
- To add a range of embroidered roses, begin by working the darkest roses as woven wheels using six strands of plum. Then, create medium-toned roses as bullion knots using six strands of dark pink, and the palest roses in cast-on stitch using six strands of light pink and a chenille needle. Finish by working the rose leaves in fishbone stitch using six strands of dark green.
- Incorporate some subtle blue embroidery flower designs by working them in satin stitch with three strands of blue. Each petal consists of three stitches, and a French knot is worked in the center using three strands of yellow.
- To add embroidered leaf branches and bring the design together, work the leaves and stems in pistachio using fishbone stitch with six strands. Stitch the stems with couching stitch using three strands.
- Create lovely stemmed roses, working the rose buds at the ends of the stems in satin stitch using six strands of light orange. To make the buds three-dimensional, layer several stitches on top of each other. Work the stem, leaves, and sepal in light green using couching stitch (two strands), fishbone stitch with three strands, and satin stitch with six strands respectively.
- For fringed embroidery flowers, use six strands each of rose, medium peach, variegated orange, or light peach. Start by wrapping the stranded cotton 15-20 times around the thread wrapper, cutting the wrapped thread to a 2cm length. Thread the wrapped cotton through the top loops and knot to hold them together, then remove the wrapper. Secure the tassel into place at the top of the stem with two horizontal stitches worked from each side and into the center. Cover the horizontal stitches with a satin stitch made of either light green or pistachio over the top of the tassel. Continue by working the stem and leaves in the same color as the sepal using couching stitch, fishbone stitch, and satin stitch respectively.
- Once the jacket is embroidered, immerse it in warm water to dissolve the stabilizer, rinse, and let it dry. Cut the loops at the top of the tassels and run a needle through each strand to separate them. Trim the embroidery flower design to the desired length.
- Ensure all thread ends are securely tied off, and iron the stabilizer on the back to protect the threads. To care for your embroidered flower jacket, hand wash it carefully.
After completing your flower embroidery project on a denim jacket, consider expanding your design by adding more flowers or experimenting with different patterns across the entire jacket or other garments. Even offcuts of water-soluble stabilizer can be used to create small, simple flower designs on various clothing pieces.
