Continued strife with the latest occupant - Beach bathing at Halensee permitted exceptionally once more
A Chilly Summer Switch-Up at Halensee Lido
👎🏼 Looks like those dreams of summer splashes in the cool Halensee waters are taking a dive. Berlin's Bathing Operations' newest lessee, announced back in 2023, won't be opening the Halensee Lido (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf) as planned this season.
🙅🏼♂️ So, what gives? According to the urban development committee of the District Assembly (BVV), there's been a hiccup in the form of missing building permit applications for mandatory renovations. Building Senator Christoph Brzezinski (38, CDU) confirmed the bummer news to the "Tagesspiegel". On top of that, the lessee's raised concerns about district-specific requirements, which, they claim, seemed pretty unpredictable.
🌊 The Halensee, despite being a mostly private property, can be accessed publicly at its southern tip and northern shore, with shore paths and lush lawns to kick back and lounge on.
One Swimmy Swampy Situation After Another
As you might've heard, by early 2024, a new lessee hopped aboard with dreams of a year-round operation complete with a café and restaurant. But, like previous operators clutching diverse concepts, they too have found it tough to keep the lido afloat.
🚫 Swimming in the sexy 5.7-hectare Halensee was off-limits for a hot minute due to yucky water quality, but since the installation of a filter system back in 2007, we've found ourselves back in business!
🤝 Enrichment: Renovations of public facilities can occasionally get delayed due to various factors, like hefty renovation costs, disagreements over budget allocations, concerns about water quality or safety, delays in obtaining necessary permits from local authorities, or issues with contractors. But to get the dirt on the Halensee Lido's current delay, we recommend checking out local news sources or official announcements from the facility's management or local government. 🦸🏼♂️✍️📰
With the planned opening of Halensee Lido delayed, locals might find solace in tending to their home-and-garden to maintain a pleasant lifestyle during the summer months. In attempt to keep the lido afloat, the new lessee has encountered challenges in renovating and adhering to district-specific requirements, potentially affecting the future of the popular outdoor swimming area.
