Construction site persists in the central district of Braunschweig
From July 21 to August 1, 2025, the City of Braunschweig will implement traffic restrictions in the Augusttorwall area due to sewer renovation work. The Augusttorwall area traffic restrictions are expected to cause some inconvenience, but alternative routes have been recommended to ensure smoother traffic flow during this period.
Through traffic to the main station and Auguststraße remains possible in the affected area, but drivers are advised to use alternative routes to avoid the closure on Augusttorwall.
For precise navigation, GPS apps with real-time updates for Braunschweig during this period are recommended. Local traffic signs will also guide drivers along alternative routes.
Here are the recommended alternative routes:
1. From the west, drivers can use Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße and Am Steinberg to circle around the Augusttorwall area. 2. Approaching the main station from the south, drivers can use Mühlenpforte and Karlstraße. 3. Coming from the east, drivers can use Frankfurter Straße and Salzdahlumer Straße, which connect to the main station access roads.
Please note that the right-turn lane towards Wolfenbütteler Straße will be closed during the traffic restrictions. However, the lane from John-F.-Kennedy-Platz towards Wolfenbütteler Straße is not affected by the restrictions. One straight lane will also be closed during the traffic restrictions in the Augusttorwall area.
The City of Braunschweig's Sewage Department (SEBS) has announced these traffic restrictions and apologizes for any inconvenience caused. Lane narrowing is necessary for the sewer renovation work in the Augusttorwall area.
The SEBS encourages residents and visitors to plan their journeys accordingly and to allow extra travel time during this period. They appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this necessary maintenance work.
Despite the citywide sewer renovation work in July 21-August 1, 2025, residents can maintain their regular lifestyle by using alternative home-and-garden friendly routes suggested by the city. For drivers, navigating the city during this period can be smoother with GPS apps updated in real-time, as local traffic signs will guide along the recommended routes.
