Construction on the playground located at Wiener Straße, known as "Wexenhausen," has been completed.

The Hexenhausen playground in Halle, Germany, has undergone a significant transformation, reopening its doors to the community in July 2025. The redesign, which started in January of the same year, aimed to enhance usability, safety, and enjoyment for visitors of all ages.

The revamped playground, located between Wiener Street, Graz Street, and Mannheim Street, boasts a variety of new amenities. Central to the redesign are imaginative play structures inspired by witch and fairy-tale themes, designed to create a magical atmosphere for children.

For the safety and comfort of visitors, modern safety surfacing and equipment adhering to the latest European standards have been installed. Accessible pathways and inclusive play elements cater to children with disabilities, ensuring everyone can enjoy the new facilities.

Parents and caregivers will appreciate the improved seating and shaded areas, while the enhanced landscaping and green spaces contribute to a more natural and inviting environment. For those seeking exercise, outdoor fitness equipment for older children and adults has been installed.

The playground is now equipped with lighting for extended usability during evening hours, making it a versatile space for the community. The funding for this project came from municipal funds and grants, with the Urban Development East program contributing 67%.

The playground includes attractions for children up to the age of twelve, such as a sandpit with baking tables, a small playhouse with a slide and climbing ascent for younger children, and a large "Big Witch House" with two high play towers, a tube slide, and various climbing ascents, nets, bridges, and more for older children.

The new playground, named Hexenhausen, has been an exciting collaboration between the city and the neighboring kindergarten "Kinderpark". The children were actively involved in the redesign process, deciding on the theme "Fairy Tales" and the name "Hexenhausen".

As part of the redesign, 14 trees and 1,450 shrubs will be planted on the green area belonging to the playground, further enriching the natural environment. Benches, seating groups, waste bins, and bicycle racks have also been added for the convenience of visitors.

The Hexenhausen playground is now open for use, offering a fun, safe, and inclusive space for the community to enjoy. For those interested, more detailed information and photos of the redesign are available upon request.
