City Progress and Modernization Day

The city of Detmold is set to host an Urban Development Day on May 10, 2025, as part of the nationwide "Lively Places. Strong Communities." initiative. This event, from 2 pm to 8 pm, promises a varied programme that caters to all ages and interests.

The day's activities kick off with a historic city tour led by Cornelia Müller-Hisje, providing background information about renovated buildings with funding. For those interested in urban development, experts will be available for discussions from 6 pm at Hotel Wertschätzer in Krumme Straße. Unfortunately, the participants for the evening discussion are yet to be announced.

For the first time, a 360-degree virtual tour of the Urban Development Day will be available on the city portal, allowing those unable to attend in person to experience the event.

Children and families can participate in a city rallye through the historic city center between 2 pm and 5 pm. This interactive activity offers a fun and engaging way for young ones to learn about the city's history and architecture. The rallye concludes at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz, where a cool surprise awaits.

Meanwhile, a walk through the former British settlement takes place at 3 pm, with the meeting point at Siegfriedstraße / corner Adenauerstraße. This walk offers insights into how urban development impacts neighbourhoods. The tour culminates with a small snack.

A construction site tour on the castle square will focus on the sustainable development of a central urban space. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in construction and urban planning to gain firsthand knowledge of the project.

The Heimspiel OWL of the Detmold Sports Association will offer games and fun at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz, adding to the day's festivities.

Mayor Frank Hilker emphasises that urban development thrives through dialogue and participation. He plans to realise more such housing projects in the future and intends to contact the new Federal Minister of Housing, Verena Hubertz, to promote such projects.
