Central city public restroom adjacent to the main train station begins functioning
New Quiet Restroom Coming to Düsseldorf's Central Station Area
Düsseldorf's central station area is about to see a new addition to its amenities. The Building Management Office has announced plans to commission a new quiet restroom in the middle of September.
The exact location of the new facility is at Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 54, near the central bus stops in front of the main station. This strategic positioning makes it easily accessible for both travellers and locals alike.
The new restroom is a part of the "EKISO" development concept, commissioned by the city council of Düsseldorf in 2008. The cost of the facility is estimated to be around 180,000 euros. Media connections, including sewer, water, and electricity lines, were laid in May, before the installation of the toilet facility.
The objective of the new restroom is to provide clean, comfortable, and safe facilities for users, while ensuring accessibility for everyone, including those with disabilities. Regular cleaning and maintenance will be crucial to maintain user satisfaction and health standards.
The new facility is a response to the wish of the citizens for a barrier-free and free-of-charge facility near the main station. The vandalism-resistant design, with secure installations such as handwashing basins, ensures the facility's longevity and user-friendliness.
The installation took place over a period of eight weeks, following foundation work in May. Only final residual and connection works remain until mid-September. Dorothée Schneider, the city treasurer responsible for the Building Management Office, is pleased with the implementation of the measure.
The new quiet restroom at Düsseldorf's central station area is a building block for the upgrading of Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. The facility's green colour, matching the light and bike rack pillars along Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, serves as a guide towards the city center. The new facility also contributes to the city's toilet network, providing a public toilet in a central, highly frequented area.
