X marks the spot: Celebrating 150 years of Esser Pharmacy in Urberach

With a hearty cheers and a tasteful bouquet, Mayor Jörg Rotter and Economic Development Officer Till Andrießen threw their hats off to Esser Pharmacy for clocking 150 years in the small town of Urberach. Currently helmed by fourth-generation business heads Evelyn Rehn and Jochen Esser, it's the town's oldest business still going strong!

From Hirsch to Esser: Evolving with the times

The roots of Esser Pharmacy go back to 1874, when it was originally known as the Hirsch Pharmacy. The community had long craved pharmaceutical services and finally got their wish with the establishment of this pioneering drugstore. This was a significant milestone in the local infrastructure, and even at the 750th anniversary celebration, Member of Parliament Patricia Lips made a pointed reference to Esser Pharmacy in her speech, highlighting its historical significance in the city.

Tech meets Tradition: State-of-the-art tools with a nostalgic touch

Before the new millennium set in, the management baton was handed over to Evelyn Rehn and Jochen Esser by their father, Hans Joachim. Since then, investments into technology and equipment have never faltered. A high-tech, computer-controlled storage and dispensing system equipped with a robotic arm ensures that the 10,000 packages that cross the counter every month are efficiently sorted and prepared. As Jochen Esser puts it, "It's a massive relief for us!"

However, the pharmacy's commitment to traditional methods is unwavering. Numerous medicines, drops, and ointments are still produced in-house, which adds a personal touch and sets the pharmacy apart in a world dominated by large chains. The harmony between modern tech and age-old techniques was acknowledged by Mayor Rotter and Economic Development Officer Andrießen during their visit.
