Celebrating 400 years of Liepāja's historic milestone!

The city of Liepāja is currently buzzing with excitement as it celebrates its 400th anniversary. The festivities include the "Illuminated Liepāja" event and the concert performance "Personal Code: Liepāja".

The "Illuminated Liepāja" walk, available for city guests and residents until Saturday evening, winds along the waterfront promenade through Rose Square. This cultural illumination event, like many others, features public art installations, light shows, and performances that highlight Liepāja's rich cultural heritage and contemporary creativity.

Meanwhile, the concert performance "Personal Code: Liepāja" views belonging to the city as the most important thing. Maija Kalniņa, the director of the concert, emphasizes teamwork and love for the city as key aspects of the program. The concert stage has been erected at the concert hall "Lielais dzintars".

Ritvars Embrekts, founder of the creative association SIA "Šarmants", explains that the stage design aims to create grandeur to honor Liepāja's 400-year history. The stage design incorporates prints that represent a small view of Liepāja, allowing for changes in atmosphere during the concert and emphasizing various symbols of the city. Every note, word, or light in the concert is considered a declaration of love for the city of Liepāja.

At three places along the "Illuminated Liepāja" route, special drawings and greetings from Liepāja's schoolchildren and kindergarteners on the occasion of Liepāja's 400th anniversary will be displayed. The goal of the stage design is to embody the values of Liepāja.

These celebrations are not just a one-time event. They are also serving as a practice for Liepāja's role as the European Capital of Culture in 2027. The celebrations for Liepāja's 400th anniversary are being coordinated with the "Liepāja 2027" foundation.

A special magazine has also been created as part of the celebrations. The displays along the "Illuminated Liepāja" walk will come to life, according to organizer Nauris Lazdāns. The celebrations will continue throughout the year in cooperation with the "Liepāja 2027" foundation.

These events are expected to showcase local artists and innovative cultural projects, increase public participation and community involvement, enhance the city’s cultural profile internationally, create opportunities for collaboration among cultural institutions, artists, and the public, and draw tourists and media attention, strengthening Liepāja’s reputation as a vibrant cultural hub.

For detailed and precise information about the "Illuminated Liepāja" event and its direct connection to the 2027 European Capital of Culture preparations, it would be best to consult official Liepāja cultural websites, tourism offices, or event organizers closer to the date or in official announcements related to the 2027 capital of culture program.

The special magazine created as part of the celebrations will feature articles on Liepāja's rich lifestyle, showcasing its home-and-garden elements that are an integral part of the city's cultural heritage. EU media entities are encouraged to cover the "Liepāja 2027" foundation's efforts to groom Liepāja into a vibrant cultural hub, highlighting its potential as the European Capital of Culture in 2027.
