Building a Sanctuary for the Weasel
In Landshut, Germany, on July 24, 2025, the Foster Child Service at the Youth Welfare Office organised a series of artistic programs for foster children, aged three to 13. These programs, greatly valued by both the children and foster parents, aimed to foster creativity and a sense of home among the participants.
The day began with a group led by art therapist Nadine Heigl-Sandmeyer, who guided the children in creating a unique home for a gnome using natural materials. The children discussed the importance of a cozy home and the individual needs of each "gnome home resident." A younger group, also led by Heigl-Sandmeyer, followed suit, reflecting on what's most important in a cozy home.
Simultaneously, another group, under the guidance of art therapist Hanna Nebe-Rector, explored their creativity with colour on paper at the Malkastl in Geisenhausen.
The Foster Child Service, open to welcoming new families to its foster parent team, plans to organise more such events for foster children in the future. Interested families can find more information about joining the foster parent team on the website www.pflegekinder-landshut.de. For more details, visit the website or contact [email protected].
The children participating in these programs shared how individual each "gnome home resident's" needs are, underscoring the unique nature of each foster child's experience. The Foster Child Service of Landshut Youth Welfare Office has previously organised similar events and welcomes further interest and participation from the public.
The identity of the individual leading the Children and Youth Welfare (Kinder- und Jugendhilfe) in Landshut in 2025, or who first organised artistic programs for foster children there, remains unknown in the available search results.
The Landshut Youth Welfare Office's Foster Child Service warmly welcomes interested families to join the foster parent team. The contact information for the Foster Child Service is provided at [email protected].
