Bergisch Gladbach's 'Fair Week' Engages Locals in Fair Trade Awareness
Bergisch Gladbach recently hosted a 'Fair Week' from September 12th to 26th, 2025, with various events and activities promoting Fairtrade. The Fairtrade steering group played a significant role, engaging locals and raising awareness about fair trade practices.
The 'Fair Week' kicked off with the 'Aromas of the World' event at the city library. Renate Beisenherz-Galas captivated the audience with excerpts from the book 'Fair for future', explaining the origins of world shops and fair trade. The event also included a wine tasting, with the One World Shop inviting attendees to sample fair-traded wines.
Throughout the week, the Fairtrade steering group set up stands at the Wednesday market in Bergisch Gladbach and the Friday market in Schildgen. They provided fair information and sold fair-traded products, engaging with over 150 people who participated in a coffee bean guessing game. Okan Soylu and Nesrin Hussein were among the winners, each taking home a fair football.
The steering group also participated in the annual city and cultural festival with the WIR-mobile, a mobile action center operated by an unidentified organization. They offered various activities and offers around the topic of Fairtrade, with many visitors showing enthusiasm for the cause.
