In Düsseldorf, a new initiative titled the "Catholic Coffee Kiosk" has made its debut on the city's streets, taking the form of an electric three-wheeled Ape vehicle. Painted in striking wine red and beige hues, this mobile café is set to travel throughout the city, reaching out to both churchgoers and the general public.
"Our aim is to connect with people, engage in conversations, and what better way to do that than over a good cup of coffee," remarks Dean Frank Heidkamp. The idea for the venture has been two and a half years in the making, with the team patiently searching for a suitable Italian company to convert the Ape into an electric vehicle.
Equipped with German technology, the mobile café boasts a range of amenities, such as a sink, refrigerator, and professional coffee maker. On the other side, a wooden panel conceals essential elements like the battery, fuse box, water tank, filter, and wastewater tank. The Ape can operate autonomously for up to two and a half to three hours, and a rearview camera ensures safe maneuvering. The cost of the mobile café amounts to 40,000 euros.
Catholic communities, institutions, and associations may borrow the Ape for events held at city churches. The Catholic Coffee Kiosk will make its first appearances during the Night of Museums on April 27, stationed in front of the Maxhaus, and on May 1, for the DGB festival, where the Catholic Workers' Movement (KAB) has temporarily taken possession of the vehicle.
While information on the Catholic Coffee Kiosk's regular schedule or significant events is currently scarce, Düsseldorf has a vibrant café culture, with numerous establishments offering coffee experiences and seasonal activities. For updates and specifics on the Catholic Coffee Kiosk, it is recommended to check local Catholic community centers, parish bulletins, or Düsseldorf city event listings.
In an effort to extend their reach and foster community engagement, the Catholic Coffee Kiosk initiative introduces an outdoor-living space, combining home-and-garden aesthetics with a modern mobile café. The Ape vehicle, adorned in wine red and beige hues, serves as a unique backdrop for lifestyle experiences, blurring the lines between indoor comfort and outdoor living.
