A small residence, often underused, is transformed into a comfortable and unexpectedly roomy escape, credit to a considerate design and an organic contemporary aesthetic.
Transforming a small dwelling into a spacious, stylish abode isn't a walk in the park, but this incredible tiny home proves it can be done. This ingenious remodel embodies an organic modern style that adds warmth, charm, and character to a compact space.
This compact, underutilized property was loved at first sight by its owner, Gem Boner. A substantial transformation was needed, with careful thought given to maintaining the property's character and history while creating a cozy, inviting living space.
The property's captivating past, combined with its diminutive size, brought several challenges. The staircase, for example, was a significant hurdle due to the need for regulatory compliance and space limitations. However, Gem and her team managed to find a unique spiral staircase that neatly fits the central room and adds an element of character to the home.
Luckily, the staircase's size has exceeded expectations, helping to zone the downstairs area effectively without becoming a hindrance. The kitchen and living area are broken up without blocking natural light, allowing the space to feel airy and open.
Character was a prominent theme throughout the project, with the goal being to preserve existing charm and reintroduce it where it was lacking. The end result is a space that feels magical, romantic, and just a little dreamy.
One of the most striking design elements is the enormous arched window, which brings a sense of grandeur and age to the small living space. It's the main source of natural light and acts as a beautiful design statement. The arched shower echoes this curve, creating continuity and unity within the space.
In a small space, every item needs to serve a purpose. The bathroom, in particular, was carefully planned to create a sense of luxury without compromising the small footprint. Innovative choices were made, like the Senator bath by BC Designs, which just managed to squeeze in with a centimetre to spare.
The bedroom is located on a mezzanine bed platform instead of a separate room, making the space feel tall and airy. The warm neutral color palette, textural choices, and organic modern style make this tiny space inviting and cozy.
Every corner of the home has been thoughtfully curated, with attention paid to design details such as clear stackable bins, cafe curtains, and vintage pillows that add warmth, texture, and visual interest. The overall aesthetic is a perfect blend of minimalism and organic modern style.
Small really can be impactful. This tiny home shows that with clever planning, thoughtful design choices, and a focus on both aesthetics and functionality, it's possible to create a space that's warm, inviting, and spacious, regardless of its size.
